Hi Gozz,
Just to clear a matter up. My husband (Thinker) does not in any way agree with shunning. He is not a JW. If you will look at his post again, these are quotes from the Watchtower's pubs.
I believe he was trying to show the ridiculousness of such rules. Hope that helps.

Family Ties
by somebody inanother lie told to the media/public on the jw-medai site.. do you shun former members?.
those who simply cease to be involved in the faith are not shunned.
in compliance with the scriptures, however, members can be expelled for serious unchristian conduct, such as stealing, drunkenness, or adultery, if they do not repent and cease such actions.

Bad Ass Apostates won't get a Resurrection!
by unclebruce inthis snipet of judge joseph rutherford's wisdom is bought to you compliments of randy's "watching the watchtower world" site.
hear the judge talks about those disrespectful opposers and their eternal reward.. (i hope the link works - i just learned how to post links on the new h2o and things here are different again).

Somebody,
I had no idea that they had changed the viewpoint in the reprint of the Live Forever book. Go figure. I'm pretty sure I had the first one. I usually chose to ignore the things I didn't agree with. But kept my mouth shut.
Uncle Bruce,
I've got the edit down.
Just click on the pencil picture about the middle. Retype your name and password, and it will allow you to edit your post. Hope this helps. Haven't used the link thing yet. Can't help you there.

Thanks Somebody,
Interesting how they slyly twist the words.
Englishman,
They base disfellowshiping and disassociating and the subsequent actions on 1 Corinthians 5 and 3 John.
Interesingly the wording is applied to "anyone who calls himself a brother", which IMO, would automatically disqualify it from applying to anyone in this position.
I for one do not want to discuss religion or my personal beliefs with my JW family. I just want to have normal family relations.
What could possibly be wrong with discussing every day things.

Living - in the New World
by trevor inleaving the tower was easier for me when i stopped and contemplated what the future would hold if the jws were right after all.
everlasting life on earth under threat of death if like adam, eve the devil, the israelites in fact most of the human race, i made a mistake at any time.
to live in a world run by strict elders who have been elevated to princes seemed a worse fate than death.

Oh Lord, Trevor!!! What insight. Very scary. Sort of a peaceful big brother. I have to think or I will die.
And I might be able to handle French and Larc. But let's not even go to the other place with those other princes. -

The Online "Outlet" For JW's
by alias insaw this quote in a magazine today from a mit professor on the beneifts of children having online lives.. parent's need to recognize that otherwise these kids would be alone.
online communities provide ample spaces to explore identity, be happy or sad, get mad, act out.
this is the work of adolescence.. .

What do you like about K Halls?
by philo inhi folks.
what do you like about kingdom halls?.
i am not talking about the software i.e., the people, the pure language, the music, the smell of lavender as the toilet door swings to, or the obedient rustle of bible pages.

Oh my goodness, I thought I was the only one who pulled those little black plastic things out. I put 'em back in too.
My old KH (which was actually rather new) was awful. There was a big ruckus over the decorating. And of course the PO's spoiled wife got to do it. Truly awful. Bedroom curtains with ruffles behind the podium. A large oak dining room table for the sister's to give talks at. Oak high back chairs that made the sister's look like Lily Tomlin in Laugh In. Wallpaper that belonged in a house on the bottom and scuffed up paint at the top. The elders kids were out of control, they did things like kick their shoes off real high and hit the wall. I saw it with my own eyes. I always threatened to get a rubber chicken and throw it on the table. You could have a bed and breakfast on the platform. The unlovely wallpaper was green, and the carpet was brown with peach chairs.
She moved out, and it can only get worse because now the next PO and his tasteless wife are in charge. Whatever. I always thought it a poor representation.

P.S Also on the platform with all the oak was a wing back chair with cherry colored legs. Go figure!Edited by - Thinkers Wife on 21 February 2001 15:42:3

Lord! How I hate highlighters. Never used the things. I was dismayed when my mother would underline her's with red. Unbelievable.
I used to be one of those good little JW's who wrote all the scriptures down in the margin. Disgusting isn't it?
